Ingredients
Lemon-ginger: Lemon juice instead of lime, plus fresh ginger steeped in the warm salted syrup, gives you a zingy sipper with the same light saltiness.
- Simmer the ginger in the 1 cup of water for 5 minutes, then stir in the salt and sweetener and steep 10 minutes off the heat. Strain before mixing with the lemon juice and cold water.
Raspberry limeade: Muddled raspberries make it fruity and ruby-colored, which helps if you find a plain salted drink hard to love.
- Mash the raspberries in the bottom of the pitcher with the warm salted syrup, then add the lime juice and cold water. Strain through a sieve if you want it seed-free.

Instructions
-
Warm 1 cup of the water in a small saucepan or the microwave and stir in the salt and sweetener until fully dissolved.
-
Zest one lime, then juice enough limes to make ½ cup and strain out the seeds.
-
Pour the salted syrup, lime juice, zest and the remaining 2½ cups of cold water into a pitcher or 1½-quart (1.5 L) jar and stir well.
-
Taste it. It should be bright and tart with just a hint of salt in the background, never briny. Adjust the sweetener or water to your liking.
-
Chill and serve over ice, garnished with lime wheels or mint.
Tips for success
-
Each cup has about 290 mg of sodium, and the fresh lime juice adds a little natural potassium. Many keto eaters like a lightly salted drink on hot days or after exercise.
-
Fine sea salt and table salt measure about the same. Flaky salt is lighter by volume, so use a little more and dissolve it fully.
-
For a fizzy version, use chilled sparkling water for the cold portion. For a sweeter, unsalted sipper, make the sugar-free lemonade instead.
