Instructions

  1. Pour the coconut milk into the blender first, then add the protein powder, peanut butter, cocoa, sweetener and salt. Liquid first keeps the powder from caking on the bottom.

  2. Blend on low for 10 seconds, then add the ice and blend on high 30–45 seconds, until thick and smooth.

  3. Taste, add a little more sweetener if you like, and pour into a tall glass. Drink right away.

Tips for success

  • Whey foams when blended hard. If you don't like a frothy top, blend the powder in last, on low.
  • Peanut butter is the most carb-heavy ingredient here. A level tablespoon of natural peanut butter (just peanuts and salt) keeps the shake under 6 g net carbs.
  • Flavored protein powders often contain sugar or maltodextrin. Unflavored whey plus cocoa lets you control exactly what goes in.

Storage & meal prep

  • Best eaten fresh

Reheat: Best fresh; it keeps up to 12 hours in a sealed jar — shake hard before drinking.
