A thick, creamy berry smoothie that gets its body from avocado instead of banana, with a handful of spinach you won't taste. It makes a light breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up.

Ingredients
Dairy-free & nut-free: Carton coconut milk and a splash of canned coconut milk replace the almond milk and cream, so it is free of both dairy and nuts.
- Blend exactly as directed. Coconut milk is a little thinner than almond milk, so you may want a couple of extra ice cubes.
Chocolate raspberry: Cocoa goes in and the blackberries come out, for a thick chocolate-raspberry smoothie that tastes like a treat.
- Add the cocoa with the sweetener and taste after blending. Cocoa is bitter, so you may want an extra teaspoon of monk fruit.
Green (cucumber, lime & mint): Cucumber, lime and fresh mint replace the berries for a cool, bright green smoothie that is especially refreshing on hot days.
- Without frozen berries to chill it, add an extra ½ cup of ice, or use frozen avocado chunks.

Instructions
-
Pour the almond milk into the blender first, then add the spinach, avocado, cream, hemp hearts and sweetener, and finally the frozen berries and ice. Liquid at the bottom helps the blades catch.
-
Blend on low for 10 seconds, then on high for 45–60 seconds, until completely smooth with no flecks of spinach.
-
Taste and adjust: add a splash more almond milk if it's too thick, or a little more sweetener if your berries are tart.
-
Pour into two glasses and drink right away.
Tips for success
-
Freeze ripe avocado in chunks so you always have some ready. Frozen avocado makes the smoothie extra thick and cold.
-
Raspberries and blackberries keep the carbs low. A medium banana, the usual smoothie base, would add about 24 g net carbs.
-
For more protein, blend in a scoop of unflavored whey protein; it adds about 1 g net carbs.
Nice to have, not needed
- A high-speed blender gets the spinach completely smooth — with a regular blender, blend a little longer and add a splash more milk.
Storage & meal prep
- Keeps 1 day in the fridge
- Doesn’t freeze well
Reheat: Serve cold; shake well first.
Prep tip: Bag the spinach, avocado, hemp hearts and berries in single portions and freeze, so mornings are just milk, cream and a blender.
Best fresh. Refrigerate up to 24 hours in a sealed jar and shake well before drinking.
